Challah French-Toast Waffles

We bet you’ve heard of challah french toast…but have you ever heard of challah french-toast waffles?! If the answer is no, don’t worry, we hadn’t either until we met Miriam Caslow.

This recipe comes from Miriam  who is the President of the Jewish Women’s Foundation of New York and granddaughter Lynn Gindi. Thank you for sharing your tradition with us.

3 eggs
1 small challah cut into 1/2 inch slices
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 1/2 cups milk
1-2 tbsp sugar – depends on the sweetness of the challah

For the waffles 
Preheat electric waffle maker.
In a shallow baking dish, beat eggs. Add all ingredients except the challah and mix together.
Lay slices of challah in dish with egg and milk mixture for about 1 minute and then turn over. Allow the challah to soak up the liquid.
Spray waffle maker with oil and place slices of challah on waffle maker loosely fitting pieces next to each other.
Close waffle maker and cook at low temperature so it cooks through and is lightly brown.

Cinnamon and sugar
Maple syrup
Warm apples
Powdered sugar
