- Use your preferred recipe to make plain challah dough (see page with “Basic Recipe” for suggestions)
- Make the babka filling
For the filling [for 6-8 loaves)
1 cup / 2 sticks unsalted butter
1 ½ cup dark chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate
1 cup powdered sugar
2/3 cup cocoa powder
Melt butter and chocolate together until smooth (I did this in the microwave at 30-second intervals). Stir in powdered sugar and cocoa until smooth.
- Roll out a strand of dough, flatten the strand, and spread a layer of filling on the strand. Starting at one end of the strand, fold the dough over itself to enclose the filling within the strand.
4. Braid your challah using two or more stuffed strands of dough.
